# CLONE: clone your voice free and give it to Claude Code

VoiceStudio is a free, open source (AGPL-3.0) voice studio that runs on your own computer.
Clone a voice from a few seconds of audio, design new voices, make voiceovers, stories and
audiobooks in 646 languages, and let Claude Code use it through its built-in MCP server.

## 1. Install (one line)

macOS (Apple Silicon) or Linux:

    curl -fsSL https://voicestudio.sh/install | sh

Windows (PowerShell):

powershell -ep bypass -c "irm https://voicestudio.sh/install.ps1|iex"

Or download the installer from https://github.com/debpalash/VoiceStudio/releases/latest

What you need: a Mac with Apple Silicon on macOS 13.3+ (Intel Macs only get the app UI),
or Windows / Linux. About 8 GB of RAM to start and about 10 GB of free disk.

## 2. First launch

1. Open VoiceStudio and click "Install local runtime" (Python and the AI libraries, a few GB).
2. When it asks, install the default voice model (k2-fsa/OmniVoice, about 2.4 GB).
3. Open Voice cloning, add a clean recording of your voice (3 to 10 seconds is the sweet
spot), type a line and generate.

## 3. Hook it into Claude Code

Keep VoiceStudio open (the MCP server lives inside the running app), then run:

claude mcp add --transport http voicestudio http://localhost:3900/mcp/ --header "X-OmniVoice-Client-Id: claude-code"

Check it with `claude mcp get voicestudio`, or type `/mcp` inside Claude Code.
Prefer a file? Put `mcp.json` (in this folder) in your project as `.mcp.json`.

Keep the trailing slash on `/mcp/`. If you changed the port, use yours.

Tools Claude Code gets: clone_voice, generate_speech, transcribe, list_voices,
list_personalities, list_languages, check_health (newer builds add describe_voice and design_voice).

Try: "Clone my voice from ~/voice/me.wav, then read script.md in my voice and save it as voiceover.wav."

## 4. Or let Claude Code do all of it

Paste `setup-prompt.txt` into Claude Code. It checks your machine, installs VoiceStudio,
connects the MCP server, and makes a test clip with your voice.

## Rules

Only clone your own voice or a voice you have permission to use. Commercial use of the open
source build follows AGPL-3.0; VoiceStudio sells a separate Pro licence for commercial terms.
